Couldn't put this book down!

If you have not read the first two books in this series, I highly recommend you start with them before you move on to Winter of Wishes. I promise you, you'll love this book even more having done so.

I fell in love with the Lantz family right away. I've been biding my time for Winter of Wishes to be released so I could see where author Charlotte Hubbard would take this amazing family. Rhoda has watched happiness happen for her sister, Rachel and mamma, Miriam and wonders if maybe it's missed her altogether. I'll admit, when I read the summary for this book, I was worried that Rhoda would make some hard choices that would change the lives of the Lantz family forever. Ones that I wouldn't agree with. This book kept me intrigued and had some twists I didn't see coming.

I truly had a hard time putting this book down. I have read a lot of Amish books in my lifetime and can honestly say that this series of books ranks as one of my favorites. Author Charlotte Hubbard did an outstanding job once again and I continue to look forward to reading more of her work in the future. Hint, hint, Charlotte. I hope Seasons of the Heart will continue. I want to know more about the Lantz family and Willow Ridge!!

enjoyed the characters and sweetness of the story

I'd rather have a better rating system. To me , a 4 is incredible praise, a 3 is very good and 2 is not bad. This whole series captured my attention and I VERY much enjoyed all the characters. The Chistian themes were quite sweetly portrayed. But most of the characters were a little too perfect or too nice except, of course, for the bishop. Whatever the case, overall 2.5 for this particular book but just for general sweetness and a nice memorable, clean story, I'd say I'll bump up to 3 rather than down. All the books in this series were at that level. Sweet relationships and just a general niceness. The romantic sections were somewhat predictable however and, SPOILER ALERT: if their preacher was forced to wait until his wife died (divorce situation) before marrying, why would same preacher, due to become their bishop, give the ok for these two ( the man was divorced with a living wife) to marry if he became Amish and joined the church? Oh well, so much for logic. The scenes showing one person forgiving another, many scattered throughout the series, and showing simple love and grace, were enough to bump up my rating however. I just happened to like the whole series. Especially the first two books but I don't remember as Amazon asking me to review those?

Best Amish Fiction I Have Read

It seems there is a plethora of Amish fiction books out there, and many are very well-written. I can name off several authors that have become best-sellers in this genre. But I believe that with this book, another author needs to join these ranks as well. In fact, with this book, Charlotte Hubbard has moved to the top of my list of Amish authors! I have loved her writings for some time, but this book has to be the perfect Amish book! it has everything--romance, mystery, reality, true love, and a few twists along the way. I was so captivated by this book that I hated to put it down, and every time I read it, I basically devoured it. Very few books can cause me to tingle with excitement, but this book certainly provided that sensation!

I remember telling my mom halfway through the book that I truly wasn't sure how the book would end. And the series is far from over (I hope). I marveled at what someone was willing to do for love because I have never known such selfless love as that (except from my mom and daughter). There is much humor, spiritual lessons, and a mesmerizing representation of the Amish communities. Charlotte never passes judgment on the English or the Amish (in fact, she leaves all judgment calls up to the reader). The Christian lessons are so entwined within the story that the reader never feels like he/she is bombarded with religion.

The characters are delightful in the extreme, and the reader won't find anything problematic within the book. There's one time where one of the characters is almost perceived as swearing, but another character puts a godly spin on it (I found that detail quite charming amongst many others in the book). If you have not read the first two books in the series, you can jump on in with this story, but you may wish to the first two for optimum enjoyment of this book. I whole-heartedly recommend this book to anyone out there even if you are not familiar with the Amish. I believe you will be in for an emotional, eye-opening, rip-roaring time!

Great read

this book was super easy to read. I just needed a quick pick me up that wasn't boring, or non-educationally written (if thats a word). I really appreciated his insight and honesty. Examples as well were great. This is not an in depth book but it is more than the average affirmation book.

I've read several of Victoria's books but this is a decidedly different one for her. It was wonderful to see her stretch her wings and write something different. She has a fantastic writing style and I love the characters and storyline. The reason I found this book different than some other romances is that it was somewhat more realistic. Many romances have the usual "trials and tribulations" but this one put the characters through their paces and put them through real life experiences and gave them real life emotions. As I read it (I admit I wanted to spend every moment reading it and not put it down!), I could see this story happening in real life. The hero, Nick, used to be the kind of guy that lived for the moment and for himself - parties, flings, alcohol, travel, money, etc. He lived hard and played hard. He had a life changing experience when something happened (don't want to spoil it!) and becomes a Christian but life doesn't become easy for him. He is still tempted by that lifestyle and has to choose daily how to overcome those temptation just as regular people do! The heroine, Kate, is the opposite. She is always playing it safe and wants to be in control and doesn't want to take any kind of chances. Therefore, she doesn't think she needs God or faith because that means she can't control things. Her grandmother needs her after her stroke and Kate's life spins out of control with all that is expected of her. There is so much in this book that can be asked of ourselves of our own lives. I enjoyed it very much and would highly recommend it. I was given this book by the publisher to review but it is an honest review by me.

More than just a novel

First of all, Victoria Bylin is an excellent author. Her book has faith, heart, humor and enough action to keep the pages turning. Her characters are fully fleshed out, and easy to relate to throughout the book.

BUT...this book is about more than just fiction. I encountered multiple layers of story, and was deeply moved.

People find Jesus in the most unique of circumstances...something we all know, be we see through Kate. Faith is simple, but messy and can feel complicated...we see that through both Nick and Kate.
God is merciful, but sometimes we feel as if He is absent during the hard times...another lesson we gain from "Until I Found You".

In fact, the title serves two purposes. Nick kept his vow until he found Kate...a lesson in how we demand expectations of ourselves that God would never hold us to on His part. Kate knew exactly what she wanted in life until she found Nick...a lesson in how we can plan and plan and plan but until we know Jesus, we're really just wandering.

And both Nick and Kate had no hope until they found Jesus...but lives wasn't all hearts and flowers immediately. This is the read meat and potatoes of faith in this fallen world. It is entertaining, it is powerful...it is a must read.

Kate Darby's mantra is to enjoy life one day at a time. She enjoys her work and living in the city. When Leona Darby, her grandmother, becomes ill Kate heads to the small mountain town of Meadows to take care of her and help run the small newspaper her grandfather started. She suddenly finds her life having more twists and turns than the mountain highways.

Nick Sheridan isn't proud of his past. He had a bestseller book about his old life, his hedonistic life. One night on Mount Abel had changed all of that. He became a Christian and promised God he would stay date-free for one year. He still struggled to lose all those old habits. His struggle became a bit harder when Leona's beautiful granddaughter came to town.

Leona Darby was ready to die, but she was still needed on earth. She had to tell Kate about the condors. One morning while she poured her heart out to God in prayer, she told Him she would do whatever it would take to help Kate, she had no clue God would take it so literally.

A page turner. I could not put this book down until the end. It was so true life. The struggles of leaving old lives behind, of giving up control of one's life to an unseen God, of having the right people around you to help guide you. Or, to follow the wrong people. The questions of why God allows bad things happen. Learning to depend and trust God even when life isn't full of roses, because there will always still be thorns.

Although this book is surprising, still it has no magic in it. It simply has a sensible data that on the off chance you will follow and your life will be vastly improved and you will be more satisfied. I like the way the book is separated into gatherings and afterward sets of data. It would not take you long to read, however, it is one of those books that you will read through a couple times and afterward search through areas when you require a touch of refresher.
All you can say about this book is that it has a lot of information stored in it with a very few pages. It has something more than habits. Writer of this book, David A. Daniels, surprised me when I witnessed a lot of information about health, money, relationship, organization and much more. I have read this book many times and got benefited each time. The best thing that I've learned from reading this book is that happiness is a habit practiced once at a time. Happiness is a state of mind and we can be happy whenever we set our mind to be.

Honestly, I am a person who is easily affected by circumstances. When I got problems, I always think and worry for them. But reading this book helped me realize that I must change, one habit at a time.

Furthermore, this book gives useful tips on how to be happy in your financial, relationships, family, online presence, health and other aspects in life. I would definitely recommend this book. I know this will really help you become a more happy person.

A story that touches upon a sensitive subject in a sensible direction

A story set against the backdrop of a typical Indian household where the woman is expected to “obey” the man of the house – should make an interesting reading. This story was of course interesting enough albeit minor clinches which sort of reduced the levels of enthusiasm that I would normally have while reading such a book.

The protagonist, Leela, a dark skinned average girl is labeled unlucky thanks to “manglik” planetary alignment in her horoscope. Her parents favor her brother over and she fights for the recognition that she deserves. She dreams of being an RJ but parents force her to get married. When a handsome boy from a wealthy family comes knocking in the form of a proposal, Leela envisages her dreams taking flight. Sadly life has other plans for her, her dreams are shattered even before they actually take flight. Delving into previously traversed path, Leela embarks on a journey to discover herself, this journey is all what the story is about.

I bet that for any seasoned Indian reader, the above paragraph would have probably contained about a handful of clichés and stereotypes. Yes, this story had a lot of that – dark skinned and meek girl, abusive relationships, parents who believe the husband is the god. These very stereotypes are what made this book fast paced and kept me hooked. I was waiting for a point where all that changed and that didn’t exactly happen the way I expected, so score one for the writer for putting a good twist! The characterization was pretty much above level for what is expected from a rookie writer. Nevertheless, I felt there was an overdose of the protagonist. With a bit of fleshing for other characters, like her parents or her maid who was also played a vital part in the story could have certainly helped. I also felt the writer ended up modifying the core traits of a couple of characters to suit the ending that she wrote. May be she intended for those characters to actually repent for their acts, but it wasn’t really convincing.

The writer, however, must be lauded for taking on the serious issue of domestic violence and tackling it in an almost appealing manner. Not every new writer takes on such a complicated subject!

MY SAY: A story that touches upon a sensitive subject in a sensible direction.

Redeeming and journey of self discovery

The Other End of the Corridor is coming of age story of a young girl, Leela who has had it tough right from her birth. She is condemned as an inauspicious child, the one who’d bring misery and doom to those around her. Unloved by her own family, she is married at 19. She dreams of leaving all that behind and thinks of starting a happy and a meaningful life ahead. But reality strikes and she finds herself abused physically and mentally by her depressive and manic husband and control freak mother-in-law. And her dream to make it big in life vanishes into thin air.

Leela’s story is the one that we read and see commonly around us. Her struggles and challenges highlights the existence that a large number of women go through in our society. Leela’s story is one of survival, despite the odds being heavily stacked against her. The author has captured Leela’s pains and woes with such honesty and emotion that I could feel for her.

The characters are real and have their failings and shortcomings, which makes the story all the more believable. The language used is simple and the story flows effortlessly thereby engaging the reader in you completely. The book title and cover are appealing and truly reflect the content and mood of the story.

The Other End of the Corridor is Leela’s redeeming and journey of self discovery, her development from a naive girl to a woman who goes on to live her dream, is well crafted. As I said earlier, Leela’s story is something that we all are familiar with and actually there is no newness in the book. But such stories need to be read and encouraged because these bring to the fore the oppression of the women and their sufferings while being subjected to domestic violence. Such books may help to change the prevailing mind sets and break the social stigma attached to these abusive relationships.

This one is a must read for all those who believe in women empowerment

I wanted to read this book from the moment my eyes fell on the cover. It’s simply gorgeous. Yeah, I am like that. I so fall for an eye-catching cover. I filled the form with alacrity when the book came up for blog tour via The Book Club, without even checking out the blurb or genre.

When I started reading the book, I couldn’t understand the first page at all. After finishing the book, I feel it’s been placed wrongly, not giving the right impression of the book. It’s important that the book begins in an interesting way.

The moment I started reading the second page I was hooked. But...

Spoilers galore from here on... STOP READING if you haven’t read the book yet

I could so relate to the beginning, the people from the guy’s side coming to view the girl, she being a manglik, the astrologer insisting on being a know-all, the parents desperate to get rid of the girl, a duty to be performed for the sake of society and more.

As I read more and more, I started feeling depressed actually. Wasn’t there an end to Leela’s woes? What’s a story that can’t make her a heroine? were the questions that came to my mind. I trudged on and am I glad I did!

The language is flawless and the proofing perfect. This is a major plus for me when I read a book. So a special kudos to the author and publishing house on this!

Here is this girl – yeah, Leela is a girl who’s not even out of her teens when she gets married to Vishal – struggling to lead a life, smothering all her dreams. She treated so badly by her husband and also by her highly educated, educationist mother-in-law. Vishal is a spoilt brat who doesn’t have a job to go to. He’s a chain smoker and a wife-beater. Leela is shocked with the turn her life has taken and doesn’t know how to get out of it. Her parents wouldn’t hear of her woes. They are not interested. Her elder brother is too selfish and doesn’t want to listen to his sister’s problems.

Vishal getting a job based in Bangalore appears to be a relief. But away from Delhi and her mother-in-law, it’s not funny for this housewife of barely twenty to manage the household, especially on such a tight budget that her husband gives her.

Leela happens to meet two other women who used to live in Patiala during her school days. Priya is an airline pilot who’s confident and doesn’t need men in her life. She’s got a career and has adopted a girl-child, bringing her up all by herself.

Harleen is married to a super-rich guy and has a posh life. She and her friends are ready to befriend the middle-class Leela.

It brought tears to my eyes as I watched Leela finding some fun in life when she gets to have a makeover at Harleen’s home; gets to wear some of her classy clothes. This is a kid who doesn’t have a life. Why wasn’t I surprised when she tries her hand at smoking and drinking and a bit of flirting? Facebook comes to her rescue at one point. I couldn’t blame her for creating a fake account. Come on, who doesn’t want appreciation? She has no life with her son-on-a-bitch husband.

Even as I felt depressed reading the book, I couldn’t help being fascinated reading the way Leela’s life unfolded in front of my eyes; how she bounces back again and yet again, never giving up on her life. She scored a major point in my eyes as not once did she think of committing suicide.

I waited and waited for someone to rescue her. Nobody did. For a few pages, I thought it was Jai who’s going to be her knight in shining armour. But no!

In the end (okay, I won’t go into the details; please read the book to find out what happens), it’s Leela for herself. Okay, she has her girlfriends who help her out.

What for me was a moment of triumph as a woman was when Leela comes up aces, landing on her feet after all the abuse she undergoes.

My hats off to the author for penning such a touching book! Yeah, I shed a lot of tears on this one.

Congratulations Sujata Rajpal! This one is a must read for all those who believe in women empowerment.

Wow I loved it.

I was looking for a book to read that had some interesting characters and a positive plot. I nailed it with this choice. I enjoyed the story of the rockstar who wants to change and how he decides to write some real songs with the famous, but private, Leena. She is, of course, hesitant to sign on with a bad boy rocker. But Monroe convinces her to help him. The story is fun and I loved the fact the the women are strong and take charge. Read this romance, you won't be sorry.
