Women's Fiction for Real Women

Sue Faris Raatjes's debut novel is one that even non-Christians can enjoy and relate to. Kate's decisions are ethical ones that anyone might make; hers just happened to be informed by her Christian faith. The book is never preachy or proselytizing. Rather Kate demonstrates her faith by her decisions and through pondering options.
She is clearly a real woman facing the issues women often do in the latter years, and she makes choices that ring as true and authentic. We care about her and the people in her circles. She makes each of us reflect on how we could be so courageous and mindful and giving. Raatjes taps into a part of us all that wants to be a better person. Kate is a wonderful model of that.

Great read, I didn't want it to end!

This book is very well written; tight prose, evokes feelings, paints pictures. A joy to read.
The story is fascinating, and you will want to spend more time with the well-developed characters.
The author's descriptions of the various locales transforms you to the places. . Vivid pictures of the environment and situations. The book ended too quickly, I wanted more time with Kate. This is an excellent work by a first-time novelist, and I look forward to more. House guests picked up the book during a recent visit, and they couldn't put it down. Was the source of good discussion during their visit.!

Couldn't put it down.

This book tells a story about a widow named Kate. The author takes you through the last third of Kate's life when she makes several very human but gutsy decisions. The story is told efficiently and in a way that keeps your interest tightly in hand. Primarily intended for women, I nevertheless found it very heartwarming and intriguing; couldn't put it down. Especially appreciated was her ending each chapter with a small hint about the "next turn of events".
