About the Author

Beautiful- written- I love it

Loved it!
I wish my words were as eloquent as Aleatha Romig’s are, but unfortunately they are not so I will do my best to give her writing the justice it deserves. I laughed and I cried as my heart swelled with happiness and tears leaked down my face. I cried from the super sweet times and from the moments that broke my heart. Tony and Claire have a special place in my heart. I fell in love with this story after reading Consequences in early 2013. I was hooked and with each book I fell harder than the book before. This book is no exception. It tugs at your heart while giving you hope that a HEA does exist.
Beyond the Consequences -The Journey Continues was breathe taking and emotional. I found myself laughing one minute and crying the next. This story gave us the missing period from when Tony and Claire reunited for the final time until the birth of their sweet boy, Nathaniel.
As the life of the Rawlings continue, so do the emotional moments that make the readers love them more with each additional book of this series. Aleatha’s brilliant writing keeps true to her characters- not changing them but simple improving them to the characters we have all come to love and cherish.
Tony is still dominating, arrogant, and in complete control but now our alpha possesses a side that very few have witnessed, a soft and caring side. Claire is the soft sweet woman of before but now she is more bold and cheeky with a spunky side. Claire still holds the power to ignite and extinguish her alpha husband with her “smart mouth”. She no longer fears his anger but embraces his emotions, confronting and guiding him to face what he fears.
Aleatha also gave a little extra with the POV of other characters we have come to love and a new one that will definitely change the life of one of our favorites. Maybe one day she will consider giving us a few of the other characters a chance to tell their story. I think many have a lot to say- but for now I am happy with all the new revelations’ of the Rawlings’ and their family and friends.
Once again, Aleatha did an amazing job with Beyond The Consequences- The Journey Continues giving us insight in the lives of so many we love without reliving their past. Aleatha Romig is a talented writer who will only soar higher as an author as her writing career continues

5++++ "Love Beyond the Consequences" Stars

Drama, Love, Bliss, Sensuality, Sweetness and Perfection..... that is what Aleatha Romig has done with Beyond the Consequences. If I have to come up with one sentence to describe Tony and Claire. ..........One of the greatest love stories ever written.

This book was FABULOUS. It has a little bit of everything. It isn't all perfect for Tony and Claire but it sure almost is. We get the glimpse of what life is like for Tony and Claire as their life progresses as a true family.....Tony, Claire, Nichol and well we can't forget their extended family, the ones that keep them safe, Phil, Eric and Taylor. There are still some dangers that lurk but with their safety net, nothing can penetrate and take away their happiness.

While reading, there were so many times that I smiled and I grinned and I was just in total bliss. I know that everyone has favorite Series and The Consequences series will forever be an All Time Favorite for me. The character development, the storyline, the complete slow change, the twist and turns, the ups and downs, Aleatha Romig created an amazing story and characters that will always be with me.

I will say that my favorite part of the book was the night when Tony and Claire are in NY alone. That passage was the full circle of the consequences for the both of them. I finished it and cried because of the beauty of the words and the emotions it gave me. I could feel Claire become whole again. As Claire was remembering that time, alone under the Iowa stars, in the pool, she opened her eyes to the warmth and smell, and those iconic words....."Good evening, Claire." And I will say that I had to pause because that phrase and all its implications were the best 3 words at that very moment. It was PERFECTION.

Anyone who is a fan of The Consequences Series, this is a MUST read. It just solidifies the happiness, the bliss, the love, the Best of Consequences for Tony and Claire.

Aleatha......you are the best at painting a picture in my head, at fade to black and most of all, you, my dear, are FABULOUS!!!

Beautiful. Heart-warming. Emotional. Refreshing. I had a smile on my face and tears in my eyes the whole way through. Way to do a series justice Ms. Romig!

Beyond The Consequences goes beyond the Happily Ever After. It went beyond my expectations as well! This book made me realize…I don’t think I will ever get enough of Tony and Claire. I will always treasure their epic love story. Their love story conquered all. Their strength, their perseverance, their unending adoration for one another just blows my mind. It is refreshing and heartwarming to read about them now, even after all they have been through, still laughing, teasing, and just loving each other. This is a couple that will always be in my heart, long after the turn of the last page.

Beyond The Consequences brought back a side of Anthony Rawlings that always makes my heart pitter-patter. Tony is a man in love. A man who will do anything for his family. But he is also a man who has a past that will not disappear, nor would he want it to, because of the fact it brought Claire into his life. He is reminded every day of what he has, and I can safely say that I am so ***n proud of that man. Don’t get me wrong, he is still the strong, possessive, brooding type, but there is a softness now about him, a softness, a tenderness that makes me weak in the knees. There may have been a time where you and I despised the man who started it all, but we can now be proud of the man who actually deserves his happily ever after.

Claire shows off her strength in this book. This is a woman who has been through hell and back. She too is constantly reminded about the past. But in Beyond The Consequences she has learned that the past will never go away, we can’t change it, we can’t run away from it. Claire Rawlings has found the other half of her heart, her soul-mate, and she will enjoy each and every moment she has with her family, rather than dwelling on the past and the what-ifs.

Quick note: Aleatha has a treat for all of you Phil fanatics out there. Phil has met his match and I couldn’t have been more giddy about it. We get to experience a side of Phil that has been hidden beneath this mask for so long. OMG! I’m still smiling about it! Phil is still a BAD ***, and it is so ***n sexy!

All in all, BEYOND THE CONSEQUENCES was an unbelievably incredible conclusion to this series. I, as a HUGE fan of the Consequences series, could not have been happier with this treat Ms. Romig gave to her readers. I understand and support the decisions Aleatha had to make in this book. I know that these characters, Tony especially, are near and dear to her heart, and I am so incredibly touched and ecstatic that she has shared them with the world.

After numerous breaches in discipline, his commanding officer sends him to Vietnam. There, he learns the hard truths about war, where the unexpected is the norm and mostly bad things happen. Mr. Attitude's secret clearance and firsthand combat experience give him special insights and a unique perspective. He sees how the war is being fought and tells a story of love won and lost, inner conflicts, and the harsh rigors of combat. He learns that war is marked by long, boring intervals, but when the spark ignites, it flames up fast-chaotic and unpredictable. Death is random, and sometimes it comes in bunches. When Mr. Attitude comes home, it's to an estranged wife and a changed world where he simply doesn't fit in. And while his instincts have helped him survive the physical aspect of war, nothing seems to help him face its psychological aftermath. The forces-at-play continue to make mischief at his expense, and Atticus finally realizes that it will take a very long time to put his war behind him.

for better or worse

Mr. Revfik narrates his person story of his life during a tumultuous period that many of lived through. In doing so many of my own personal experiences flooded back upon me...for better or worse. Even the narration of very personal events and happenings prompted my own similar personal memories. His vivid and captivating accounts of events that put him and his fellow Marines in harms way brought you into the story in such a way that you felt the heat, humidity and fear he and others felt as they trekked through the jungle terrain in search of the enemy. When that enemy was encountered, the author put you inside the action. His narration was not your typical war movie dialogue, but the true feeling of a Marine doing his duty as he was trained to do, and yet sharing his personal fears and concerns in an honest natural way. A personal journey well documented and a great read that helps even the non military person understand better the effects of those times on a real individual.

More than just another war story - the witty descriptions of characters and events that occur during Atticus' Vietnam tour of duty pull you along on his journey until he makes peace with the forces that seem determined to control his destiny. I enjoyed this book very much.

A review of the Hero in Obscurity by Daniel Regelbrugge

After reading the above book, it made me feel how we as human beings can or have experienced certain darkness in our lives and think that the light at the end of the tunnel will never shine. Also, for me, how enchanting the desert can really be if you know how to understand it. Especially if you venture out into the desert and feel its effects it will provide each individual a different experience for them to understand their most inner thoughts.

The Hero in Obscurity is an austere but at the same time facetious story which some might refer to as a parable. It is however the story of a boy, Osvaldo, who as a young boy had never experienced the love of his parents. His only escape is to visit his favorite spot in desert and practice his violin. During one such desert visit he’s tempted by desert demons (as I would call them), they offer him his most inner desire of becoming a great violinist. He knows this pact will carry a high price that he will have to pay – that of his music causing sufferance to all he meets in his travels, especially Emilio.

We all as human beings have experienced dark moments, especially when we stray from the light. For Osvaldo, he has to endure this darkness by blaming his parents for not providing him the love, compassion, but most of all the sense of belonging that all parents should provide their children. He dwells in the past and intertwines it with his present and future.

The author does a good job of emphasizing of how Osvaldo continues to live in the past instead of living in the now and looking forward towards the future. This is often a difficult task but it can be a profound spiritual experience when fully accomplished because in that now moment we experience ourselves and get a glimpse of the light. This is the story of one finding his/her personal existence i.e. destiny or meaning for life. Though it is a fictional story it is so mystical that it will take you on a voyage that will forever make you think, “How are you living your life!!!!!”

The novel ingeniously embodies self-inflicted spiritual exodus in the aching for internal freedom and the resurrection of verities trampled underfoot, forgotten, and lost to the mundane and temporary. Chasing his youthful dream, the hero readily succumbs to the Devil's temptations, and, after securing the calamitous deal, indulges in an all-consuming pursuit of perfection and harmony. His quest towards becoming a virtuoso violin player turns into roaming the circles of earthly Inferno. During the journey which spans continents, centuries, and layers of history, the hero is confronted with multitudes of choices. The external developments in the plot fade to the background, while the tempest within the character's soul - with its flaws and demonic passions, joys and virtues - comes to the fore. The labyrinthine plot of the character's internal conflict is full of spellbinding twists mediated by the internal war between light and darkness driving the motivation behind his choices. Compelled by his belated repentance, he is left lost and confused within the roadless terrain of his spirit, sustaining on the wellspring of solitude. Regardless of soul transcendence, harmony establishes itself in the parallelism of human nature - its animal and spiritual aspects.

The everlasting values of human existence are summoned by symbolic images and spiraling text reminiscent of the cathartic circles of awakening consciousness and love. After all, "What is hell? I maintain that it is the suffering of being unable to love." (Fyodor Dostoeyvsky, The Brothers Karamazov)

I am won over by the book and am definitely an ardent fan looking forward to further literary adventures from the unconditionally talented author.

A Stunning First Offering!!!

The level of artistic genius demonstrated by Daniel Regelbrugge is his first novel is atypical of an author's first-time offering. There were times I could not put the book down and other times I wanted to throw it across the room in disgust! The ability to illicit such a strong emotional response and investment from a reader is a talent that Dan explored, much like he lead character explores the effect of his music on the unsuspecting world around him.

The title seemed a little misleading to me, but as with all of the subtleties in the book, it has a distinct purpose for the reader to ponder. This incredible tale causes you to become emotionally involved with a character you will find contemptible and reprehensible. The twisted hero and his journey that eventually emerges will at times leave you exasperated, exhausted and finally exhilarated!

To add to the already unique and grandly illustrated hero (or villain) of the tale, the author was painstaking in his research of the geography and time period that served as backdrop.
The details and vivid descriptions make the tale all that more lusty, vibrant, alive and at times incredibly reviling.

If you enjoy the fantasy or historical fiction genres you will be both challenged and rewarded by this novel.

Read it, re-read it and recommend it! I can't wait to see what else Regelbrugge has to offer!

While it's being billed as a novel—almost certainly for legal reasons—this is actually the third installment in Kraus's series of memoirs, begun momentously with I Love Dick (1997) and followed up in Aliens and Anorexia (2000). Kraus's estranged husband, Sylvère Lotringer, is a Columbia French professor and the founder, with Kraus, of Semiotext(e): he figures prominently in all three books; here, the two are named Sylvie Green and Jerome Shafir, respectively. Kraus's third-person narrative seems coy compared with the too-close-for-comfort first-person of the two previous books, but her opening tales of Sylvie's desire for a child and of Jerome's initial unwillingness to parent with her (she has two abortions at his behest) are wrenching. Eventually, in 1991, the two haplessly take a trip to Romania to adopt an orphan. The trip is the book's center, and Sylvie fugues around it brilliantly, ruminating on art and the art world, sex and sexism, marriage and children, Judaism and the Holocaust, urbanism and ruralism—as all relate to her life as a perennial outsider. Kraus, whose writing about the L.A. art scene was collected as Video Green (2004), is an underrated thinker and critic; her books form a compelling record of recent art and culture, and make substantial contribution to both. I love her writing.

There are some books that can't easily be talked about in company because to share an enthusiasm for the work is to confess one's... well, either sins or transgressions, or what.... There are some writers, and Chris Kraus is one of them, who can't be easily taught because you can't discuss her without talking honestly about yourself. Anyone can be clever about, oh... you know... the writers who are easy to talk about.

THIS IS A GREAT BOOK. The last page is devastating but you need to read the whole thing ahead of it.

Read her other books, too.

She'll probably not get the attention she deserves, because the critics will find ways to keep her local and small.

But you won't, will you?

While it's dangerous to essentialize a novel, especially one as complex as this, Torpor is really the tragic story of a woman who wants to matter, but can't figure out how. This is, of course, only one layer of the novel, but it is an emotional undercurrent running throughout. She wants a baby but can't convince her damaged, previously divorced, holocaust survivor husband; she wants recognition in the art world but no one notices her work; she wants to be taken seriously by men, but their subtle misogyny and her self-doubt reinforce each other, and she is left futilely projecting her hopes on the work of her husband, an academic who, unlike Sylvie, seems almost to want to disappear rather than to matter. All this takes place against the backdrop of a post-cold-war world where meaning seems to be disintegrating, where reality is being superseded by media images (exemplified in the "media revolution" of Romania that figures heavily in the book).

Of course, much else is also going on, including a lot of very sharp observation about the bohemian class of the era -- artists, academics, writers -- people who seem to cloak their ambition, self-interest, and vanity in coolness and vague political ideas, to whom what really matters is "who's peaked," as Jerome and Sylvie half-jokingly discuss. Though not stylistically quite similar, Kraus's writing often reminded me of Saul Bellow's, inasmuch as the description focuses as much on the inner lives of the characters as on action and physical detail, and in the way that every page seems to be overflowing with insight.

An American girl meets and marries a French boy who's carrying around an enormous number of paralyzing memories of the Holocaust, and she decides to adopt a baby from a Third World country.

If only I could ask Chris Kraus my 20 questions! Among them would be, How would you describe the form you work in? It's very distinctive, very Chris Kraus, but what is it? I've heard people refer to your books as "comic" books, not like Nancy and Sluggo but something more like a Jane Austen sense of social comedy.

Torpor conveys like very few novels the misery of a long term relationship. You compare them to "hypothermia, giving yourself up in free and loose embtace into a dream state that turns out to be inertia." Do all relationships disintegrate into clownishness? You cite the comic French pairs, Mercier and Camier, Bouvard and Pechuchet, as models for your nagging lovers.

What's also so striking about your book is that you're not afraid to make a dog one of your main characters. I don't think any reader will forget the heroic dachshund Lily who gets carted around Europe in a sort of hideaway sack, nor that it's Lily's suffering that Sylvie and Jerome overlook in their picaresque adventure.

Sylvie is afraid that no one will ever take her seriously because she is untrained and has no MFA. And Jerome, who is a full professor at an Ivy League university, is always taunting her about this. Ms. Kraus, I read your book of essays, VIDEO GREEN, and the title essay is pretty much about the same thing, only translated to the art world. Galleries are everything, and there is no entry into getting a gallery unless you have an MFA from a select school. The whole system seems hopeless.

Back to Torpor, we of the New Narrative movement want to claim you as one of our own for your amazing vulnerability and the frankness with which you paint Sylvie as basically a sort of loser doomed to fail at anything she takes up.

And the gossip level is fairly astounding. We feel like we're backstage with Nan Goldin, Felix Guattari, Kathy Acker, so many more from the worlds of high art, French theory, transgressive literature. Of course, Ms. Kraus, everyone wants to know the identity of the few you have concealed in pseudonyms, especially "the writers Kenneth Broomfield and June Goodman."

Sylvie can't even look at Kenneth Broomfield or even think about him without one unfortunate comment, which he may or may not have made, ringing in her head. We've all been there, haven't we.

If you were here, I would ask you, do you write for a "particularly cultured audience?" And you would probably say something like, no, I write for a curious one, I want my books to be read by a girl just starting community college,

The problem with Europe, and Jerome by extension, is that people can't separate the present from the past of fifty years ago, or a thousand years ago. As Jerome is haunted and motivated by the events of his childhood, the Romanians seem to be trapped in a nightmare medievalism. In one city Jerome and Sylvie try to stay at, Brigitte Bardot appears to applaud the citizens who have let 300,000 wild dogs run feral in the streets. Meanwhile, in LA, there's no past and there's no imperfection and everything is beautiful.

Kraus writes beautifully about sex, and there's a strong passage where Sylvie is transported back to earlier ages when she's experiencing orgasm, back to 17, 14, once to age 5. It's very moving.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to ask these questions of the writer, but I can recommend TORPOR to anyone interested in either happiness or despair, America or Europe, the new or the old.

I haven't even finish the book and I want to read it again. Scott and Jeff did a magnificent job putting together a book that anyone could pick up, read, and enjoy. It's written well for both adults and youth to enjoy. Great job!

I would highly recommend it!

This book was a great read, I enjoyed seeing the characters, Ethan and Anna, transform from beginning to end and the way in which they saved each other in a sense. This book was well written and realistic, I found myself relating to many of the characters throughout different parts in the book. I would highly recommend this book!

I took a chance on this book from a good review. I was pleasantly surprised that not only did I enjoy it, but spent many late nights reading it. Ethan's journey of love and self discovery made me fall in love with him. I was given an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
