ADOLPHUS A. ANEKWE, MD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Indiana University Northwest Medical Center, and is also an active staff member at five area hospitals, a Board Certified Diplomat and Fellow in two medical specialties, and an active community leader. He resides in Schererville, Indiana, and is the author of Mark of the Beast.

An intriguing read

Mark of the Beast was an intriguing read to say the least. The author has given a unique twist to the Biblical Revelations Mark of the Beast by using science and biology as a way to determine whether or not genetic markers determine whether someone is pre-ordained to become evil and in turn become a follower of the Devil. Although this is a work of fiction, the author apparently performed some serious research in creating this story, and for that I applaud him. This was a fast paced and fairly easy read that will definitely make the reader think outside the box. In my opinion, this story would be somewhat like a prequel to the ever popular Minority Report in which 'Big Brother' knows that a person is going to do something wrong way before that person even thinks about doing something wrong. This story also poses a serious question of "What if?". What if you were a law abiding citizen and just because you had the genetic marker that marked you as a bad person....you were always being watched and always judged for the rest of your life?
I kind of wished this book had less science and more details about what the government would do with the marked individuals, but regardless, this was an interesting read that will appeal to anyone who loves a good medical thriller.

The devil is in the details

I really enjoyed Mark of the Beast despite itself. The author, Adolphus A. Anekwe, uses stiff dialogue, faulty science, and bad statistics in his book but the concept--that we can be controlled by a single gene--is so interesting that the book is well worth reading. I read it in two days and near the end I just couldn't put it down.
The central concept of the book is that there's a genetic basis for violence, particularly extreme violence, and two researchers have independently found the locus. After they go public with this news, social and political reactions result. Mark of the Beast explores this interesting concept.
There's some religion involved in the plot. The title refers to a gene, HLA B66, that is located on Chromosome 6 in humans, and in the book the designation "B 66" is thought by some to be the biblical 666, the mark of the devil. This religious angle actually was very effective in the book and the author didn't push it too hard.
I question the simplistic interpretation of how people would react to the news of HLA B66 being involved with violent behavior but I do admit it makes for a more interesting book. I think Anekwe has a winner here and with a little editing it'd make for a great book---and a hell of a good movie.

Better movie and book

Well I have to say that this one would make a really good thriller movie. The book centers around the thought that violence is controlled by one gene. I thought that this was pretty interesting. For years we have talked about Nurture vs. Nature. And well this gives a great view/aspect on the after math of finding out that its a gene.
The book was somewhat hard to follow which is why Im giving it three stars. But I think it would made a great movie. IT would be an edge of your seat thriller.
