About the Author
Christopher M. Walsh is a writer and actor whose work has been produced in the U.S. and Canada. In 2014 he was nominated for a Non-Equity Joseph Jefferson (Jeff) Award for his adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities. Other adaptations include The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, The City & The City by China Miéville, and Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman. Christopher is also a two-time finalist in the Deathscribe Festival of Horror Radio Plays, produced by Chicago’s WildClaw Theatre, with his original short plays Comparing Notes at the End of the World and Fracture Zone. As an actor, Christopher has performed with a number of companies in and around the Chicago area. He is a proud member of the artistic ensemble at Lifeline Theatre, based in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood. Lifeline specializes in stage adaptations of literary works. This is a fast paced modern adaptation of a great classic. Audiences will enjoy the theatricallity and near cinematic pacing while readers will enjoy the intelligent translation of Dumas' great characters.

Faithful to the book, but tailored for the stage.

I saw this script in its premiere at Lifeline Theatre in Chicago, and it was fantastic. The storyline is crisp and moves along well, yet still leaves time for deep characterization. Mr. Walsh has also done an excellent job adapting this classic piece of literature for the stage; he understands the needs and the power of live performance and successfully conveys the story and spirit of the original in this script without simply relying on a verbatim transcription of dialogue written for a different medium. I highly recommend this script, whether for personal reading or with an eye toward production.

This is an incredible adaptation of the novel and a strong example of how to maintain the essence of a novel but make it theatrical. Fans of the book would find this play a great read and hopefully more people will use this adaptation to mount this great classic on more stages all over the world. Loved it!
