This tale of dark fantasy finds a man caught in an epic battle of life or death.
''Knowledge in the absence of wisdom is a dangerous thing.''
Texas archaeology student Nicolas Murray has an ironic fear of the dead. A latent power connecting him to an ancient order of necromancers floods his mind with impossible images of battle among hive-mind predators and philosopher fishmen. When a funeral service leaves him shaken and questioning his sanity, the insidious power strands him in a land where the sky kills and earthquakes level cities - a land where the undead serve the living and necromancers summon warriors from ancient graves to fight in a war that spans life and afterlife.
If Nicolas masters the Three Laws of Necromancy, he can use them to get home. But as he learns to raise and purify the dead - a process that makes him relive entire lifetimes in the span of a moment - the very power that could bring him home may also prevent his return. For the supreme religious leader, the Archmage Kagan, has outlawed necromancy, and its practitioners risk torture and execution.
As warring nations hunt necromancers to extinction, countless dead in limbo await a purification that may never come.
Nicolas' power could be his way home - or it could save a world that wants him dead.

Review
"Mind-blowingly good." - Nicholas Rossis, #1 Bestselling Author of the epic fantasy series Pearseus.
"Best book I've read this year. Nat Russo could turn into my favorite author." - Phillip Ferriera, Owner of ReviewBoard.Com
"Necromancer Awakening by Nat Russo is one of the finest examples of fantasy genre fiction I have ever seen. I started to say, "seen in a long time," but the qualifier isn't applicable, since Russo is well able to hold his own among such lights as Martin, Gaiman and Gabaldon." - C. L. Roman, Editor, Brass Rag Press
From the Author
I hope you enjoy this 2nd Edition of Necromancer Awakening. When I was getting ready to publish Necromancer Falling, I discovered an amazing fantasy artist named Atanas Stoykov. Atanas created such amazing artwork that I just had to ask him to re-imagine the cover for Necromancer Awakening. He didn't disappoint, as I'm sure you'll agree.
Not only is this print edition in the larger, and more popular, 6" x 9" format, it also includes, as a bonus, the entirety of The Road to Dar Rodon. TRtDR is a prequel novelette that takes place some 40 years prior to the events of Necromancer Awakening, and it features Mujahid Lord Mukhtaar as the main character...at a not-so-pleasant moment in his life.
Thank you all so much for the kind words you've shared with me about the Erindor universe. I'm so happy you've come to love it as much as I have. Maybe someday we can all hoist a pint at the Pinnacle.
Cheers,Nat

A very fast Necromancer
By J. Perez
What I would have liked to know before I bought this book. (no spoilers)
1. What type of book is it: action, drama, etc? This is a dark fantasy action book, straight and simple.
2. What is the story about, in general? The story is about a young adult man who has been stranded in our Earth and is summoned back to the world of his origin to balance a great magical wrong through the power of Necromancy.
3. What/Who is the target audience? In general, I believe this story is directed at a male audience.
4. Is there character development? The main character has some interesting personality flaws with a slew of personality merits. Nevertheless, he doesn't overcome his flaws and those flaws are prevalent from the beginning of the story, to the very end. Experience slightly tempers those flaws with self understanding. I find this very human and somehow fitting. A secondary character is very interesting in its development. This character's role evolves from a dedicated antagonist to fervent supporter in a somewhat believable manner. Every single other character in this book is static in both role and development.
5. Are the characters likable? I would have to say `so so'. The main protagonist is more interesting than he is likable. Most of the other characters are too rushed to be well defined enough to `like' or `dislike'. By the end of the book, most of the characters feel like distant acquaintances.
6. Does the story keep its pacing? No. This book suffers from something I have rarely seen, it rushes. Mood is important in any scene. With notable exceptions, this book sacrifices mood in spades for faster action. I can't say I was bored with the book, not at all. The book is very fast paced, but it is so fast paced that scenes lack the impact that a little more scene description would provide.
7. Do you have to suspend disbelief? Hmm. The story felt a tiny bit `over the top'. Yet, it doesn't particularly break the world logic. So no, I didn't have to suspend disbelief to extremes.
8. Is the book worth the asking price? The e-book is priced at $3. IMO it is a little UNDER PRICED. I never thought I'd write that in a review. This would be a good $4 read.
In conclusion: An interesting and very fast paced dark fantasy book. With two exceptions, it suffers from predominantly static roles and development in many of the characters. The main character has an odd evolution that manages to keep character flaws while adding believable human experience to offset them. The book has a predominant pacing issue because it rushes through scenes and events; jumping weeks and even months from one scene to the next without really defining the time leaps, in most cases. Because of this rush, the book forgoes a lot of the mood in many scenes to the detriment of scene and story impact. The e-book, considering the scope of world building, feels under priced. The story is above average in entertainment value. I'm interested in what happens next.

A refreshingly unique story from a great new author
By C. Almond
This book was great from beginning to end! It's always exciting to discover a talented new author, and it's obvious that Russo knows his craft. Necromancer Awakening is a compelling new story with a very unique take on what being a necromancer is all about.
The pacing is great, the characters are memorable, and the world he's created is culturally diverse and well thought out, including some unique non-human cultures.
If you read Russo's bio, it's obvious that his background in the Seminary is paying dividends with his religious symbolism and the element of mysticism in the story.
All in all a great read, and I'm already anticipating the next book. Can't come soon enough!

A new author you are gonna love!
By Jhaxx
As I read this book I found myself wondering what else this guy has written, but then remembering that he is a new author and this is his first book. Believe me, you will never know it. He has taken the time to make this a very entertaining, fast paced, page turner.
His pacing and characterization reminds me of Sanderson and his intricate world politics reminds me of Feist. That is a good pair to be compared to.
My advice. Give it try, you won't be disappointed.
